I have a vision of a Greater Flatbush.
In my vision, residents live in well-maintained, affordable housing, in all parts of the District, from Prospect Lefferts Garden in the north to West Midwood in the south. And affordable not just for the wealthiest few, but for the many who find it more and more difficult to make ends meet. They too need good homes to call their own.
My vision includes revitalized commercial areas occupied with business enterprises that meet our community needs. To supplement services already offered by our dedicated small business owners, I plan to encourage well-known retailers to open locations on Flatbush, Nostrand, and Church Avenues, Empire Boulevard and Cortelyou Road.
I will fight for reduced class sizes for students attending primary, middle and high schools. And that is why we must do everything we can to secure the billions of dollars that the court ordered be paid to NYC as a result of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity law suit. These are urgent problems that require an immediate and sustained response. We cannot fail another generation of youngsters.
We must address the issue of gang-related violence. We cannot sit idly by and watch our kids get hurt and/or die because they’re caught up in the unlawful activities of a gang. We must provide productive activities which will build self-confidence, develop self-esteem, and instill hope for a better future.
I will fight for our Seniors. They’ve worked hard and fought the good fight. Now it’s their time to relax and enjoy their golden years with dignity. They should be given the opportunity to live in low-cost housing with active community centers, and accessible health care. And, our seniors should be able to stay in the community of which they are familiar. They should not be forced out of their apartments by uncaring, unscrupulous landlords.
I see a future where the residents of Flatbush, and all the people of New York City, receive low-cost, quality healthcare at local medical facilities. I plan to work with health officials to combat the epidemic of asthma, and the growing cases of HIV/AIDS within our district.
The soaring rate of unemployment, especially within the black community is unacceptable. One thing I plan to do is to work with the various City, State and Federal agencies to move forward with the Cross Harbor Tunnel Project which would provide jobs and spur economic growth for all of New York. And I will fight so that ALL city subsidized developments include Community Benefits Agreements.
In my vision, I see a beautifully restored Kings Theatre, the jewel of Flatbush Avenue, majestically welcoming visitors through its doors. Visitors may come to hear a concert, see an art show, dine in the high-ceiling lobby restaurant, or simply coming to the community center on the lower level to play some hoops. I envision a multipurpose, multicultural, multigenerational performance and community space, a venue that would showcase cultural presentations that mirror the wonderful diversity of our Council District residents.
We all want the same things: Clean, safe streets. Well-maintained affordable housing. Quality education for our kids. Jobs for ourselves, our family and our neighbors. Superior healthcare. After school programs for our youth. Programs for our seniors. Tree-lined streets that beautify our neighborhoods and naturally clean the air we breathe.
But before I can realize any of my vision, I am going to need your help. I am going to need your help every day, from now until February 20th. I need you to talk to your family, friends and your neighbors. I need you to spread the word. I need you to RALLY FOR McNALLY!! We can do great things when Neighbors Unite.
I care passionately about my neighborhood, the residents of the 40th Council District and New York City. My professional experience and years of community-based activities have prepared me for this position. I have the intelligence, energy, the determination, and the experience to be an effective Councilmember for you.
I am ready. Are you ready?
If you share my vision, then be a part of it. ALL of us can make the vision a reality when Neighbors Unite! |
